Dennis Phillips publisher@robconews.com Robertson County News WHEELOCK — Wheelock Pioneer Days will return Saturday, Oct. 24, with a car show, auctions, reenactments, live entertainment and activities for children, all benefiting the Wheelock Civic Association. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wheelock Bloodworth Center, 12403 FM 46 in Wheelock. This year’s theme focuses on remembering the community’s past while building its future. Visitors can browse local vendor booths, take part in a cake walk and visit a free children’s area. Barbecue brisket and sausage wraps will be available. The Lil’ Wranglers are scheduled to perform during the day, adding live entertainment to the community gathering. A car show will feature classic cars, muscle cars, classic trucks, hot rods and rat rods. Vehicle check-in is scheduled from 8 to 9 a.m., before the main event opens. The entry fee is $10 per vehicle, and winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m. Trophies and prizes are planned for participants. The Deadwood Desperados will present gun slinger reenactments at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. Visitors also will have an opportunity to take pictures with the performers at 11:30 a.m. The performances are among the day’s nods to the area’s pioneer history. A live auction will begin at 1 p.m. The silent auction will close after the live auction, giving attendees time to look over items and place bids during the event. Organizers say all proceeds will benefit the Wheelock Civic Association and its work in the community. Fundraising activities also include a 50/50 raffle and a separate raffle with $10 tickets. Advertised prizes for the ticket raffle include firearms, Visa gift cards and a meat pack certificate. The flyer lists a shotgun, rifles and pistols among the firearms offered. Attendees can get more information about raffle details at the event. The car show gives vehicle owners an opportunity to display their work and gives visitors another reason to spend the day in Wheelock. Families can move between the cars, vendor booths, children’s activities and scheduled performances before gathering for the auction in the afternoon. The event is supported by a range of local and regional sponsors, including banks, businesses, service companies and agricultural organizations. Their participation helps bring together the food, entertainment and fundraising activities that make Pioneer Days a communitywide occasion.
